- Desk research/SWOT analysis on current level of take-up and application of ISO 14001 and EMAS
- Desk research on current level of understanding on environmental sustainability (both academically and in practice by government and business)
- Desk research on current best practice in operationalising environmental sustainability within organisations (including the communication of sustainability)
- Based on the Phase 1 mapping exercise, an analysis of the limitations of ISO 14001 and EMAS and how to address these to assist in the move towards environmental sustainability
- Gaining an understanding of the opportunities that the revised EMAS Regulation provides to improve traditional EMAS and environmental reporting approaches
- Understand how the other ISO 14000 series standards (eg. ISO 14031 - Environmental Performance Evaluation standard) can be applied in concert with ISO 14001 to make it a more performance-focused standard
